David Bryce Rural Art Award PRESENTATION EVENING

March 8 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC+10

David Bryce Award

Celebrating Contemporary Rural Life through Art

The David Bryce Rural Award Exhibition is a bi-annual event in the South Burnett region’s cultural calendar, marking a significant occasion that not only showcases the immense talent within our community but also enriches our collective appreciation of contemporary rural life. This exhibition is dedicated to the memory and legacy of David Bryce, a figure synonymous with artistic excellence and cultural contribution in the South Burnett region.

Overview

In this prestigious art award’s inaugural year, we proudly present a collection featuring current rural scenes, people, and activities. It’s a vibrant reflection of today’s rural life, steering away from retrospective views or historical representations of early Australian rural settings. This choice ensures the exhibition remains a relevant, living dialogue between the artists and the audience, capturing the essence of rural life as it unfolds in the present.

Each piece has been carefully selected to represent the South Burnett region’s unique identity, showcasing the talent of practising artists who call this area home. Beyond celebrating artistic achievement, the David Bryce Rural Award competition serves as an instrumental tool in building the South Burnett Regional Council Collection, ensuring the preservation and growth of our local cultural heritage.

Honoring David Bryce

David Bryce was more than an artist; he was a cornerstone of the Kingaroy and wider South Burnett community. Residing in Kingaroy for many years, Bryce was celebrated not just for his artistic prowess as a painter, woodcarver, and ceramicist but also for his deep commitment to conservation, his Christian faith, and his humanist values. In September 2016, the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery (KRAG) hosted a retrospective of his work, commemorating what would have been his 100th birthday. Through this award and exhibition, his spirit and legacy continue to inspire new generations of artists and art lovers alike.
